ABOUT

Angela Treat LyonSince during lock-down I couldn’t do my regular business, I dove full-time into surface pattern design. Over the next few years, I have created more than 3500 designs for fabric, wallpaper, tiles, and other flat applications of repeat designs. Now, at this writing, it’s 2024, and I’m still doing tons of drawings, with all the wild color I could possibly want. Plus designs in my all-time fave, black and white.

I’m a sucker for bright, gem-colored chalk pastels. I recently created a huge series of silly fun critters, and now I use those images on fabric and various home decor items, like tea towels and such.

I can’t help it! I breathe, dream, eat, sleep and make art. All the time. It’s just what I do. I seriously wondered, way back when, if art really was ‘mine’ or something my parents gave me to do to keep me out of their hair. In the 80s I went for two years on an enforced art fast to see if it was ‘really me’ – and yup, it was – and still very much is.

I started out drawing little horses for school mates in first grade. Then it was five-dollar pencil portraits for teen friends. I studied graphic design in art school, and interned at an ad agency in New York City. Pencil sharpening. At 21, I became an ad agency art director in San Francisco.

Then it was the 60s! Smoke a lot of pot and don’t-tie-me-down! Off to Big Sur I went with my insanely heavy backpack, where I took took lots of acid and hung out with the Grateful Dead.

Making pots lasted about 15 years. I started out making very coarse stoneware, and ended up making very fine, very high-fired (3000 degrees) porcelain with very fine hand-drawn designs.

You can see the beginnings of my love for pattern and design!

Then a friend introduced me to porcelain bowl with leaf designstone. Love at first sight. I’m still in love. Stone is the best medium yet for the simple, roundified forms I like to make.

You can see the many different types of stone sculpture I’ve done at AngelaTreatLyonART.com.

There’s a whole lot of my other work, too – mandalas, pastels, books – both at that site, and LyonArtandDesign.com. And wouldn’t you know it?

I never thought anything could snatch me away from stone, but suddenly in October of 2017 I found myself going wild about watercolors. Color just reaches in and grabs me by the guts.

I can’t seem to keep from dipping my fingers into all sorts of pies. I love to write, so in 2001, I started writing books completely by accident. Since then, I’ve written and compiled over 50 of my own books, and I have designed and published books for other authors, as well. You can see many of them at atlyon.gumroad.com

I have many of my best books for free and for very inexpensive prices (like 5 bucks) there. I know – weird name. But so what? It’s great to have my books laid out so nicely there. My latest books, The Inside Secrets, Volumes I – VII, are all there as ebooks, and on amazon in print.

I invite you to check out my stories and articles about my crazy life, sailing, EFT (the Emotional Freedom Techniques), art, marketing, and other adventures at medium.com/@lyonlyon (paid memberships) and lyonlyon.substack.com/ (free=).
